Ayurvedic Way For healthy Living

Mahatma Buddha said “To enjoy good health, to bring true happiness to one's family, to bring peace to all, one must first discipline and control one's own mind. If a man can control his mind he can find the way to Enlightenment, and all wisdom and virtue will naturally come to him”.

Healthy living means both, the physical & the mental health are in balance or functioning well together in a person. In many instances, physical & psychological health are closely linked, so that a change in one directly affects the other.

Ayurveda, the 5,000-year-old India medical science of life and healthy living, has brought true health and wellness to lots of individuals throughout the ages with simple changes in daily living practices. It is based on the fundamentals that it is better to stay healthy than to heal sickness. Incorporating just a few of these proven methods into your lifestyle can bring about radical changes in your life.

Ayurveda starts with a determination of your specific "structure" or dosha. There are 3 prototypic doshas that we all have in some mixture: Vata (air). Pitta (fire) and Kapha (water). Understanding your unique balance of these, and how you may be imbalanced at this time, allows a personal, healthy living plan to be built based on the foods that bring you into balance and those which take you out of balance. There are a few helpful and real Ayurveda tips that will keep you and your family healthy and happy.

Drink as much water as you can

In Ayurveda Undigested food that circulates in our body as toxins are called ‘ama’. Accumulation of ama in the body leads to indigestion, fatigue, stiffness in joints, unpleasant body odor, diarrhea, lowered immunity and so on. Drinking water throughout the day at regular intervals is all it takes to flush out these accumulated toxins and keep your internal system running smoothly.

Walk daily

Walking is said to balance out the three doshas without causing too much strain on the body. Walking helps you lose weight, release toxins built up in the body, calms the mind and keeps the digestive system healthy.

Eat fresh food

Avoid eating processed and frozen foods, foods loaded with synthetic preservatives are harder to digest due to the complex chemicals present in them. Make an effort to eat freshly made hot food. Warmer food is easier to digest and re-energizes you for the rest of the day. Lunchtime might be a good time to take a break from your mobile and/or computer screen too.

Drink a glass of milk daily

A warm glass of organic milk that is free from preservatives and chemical additives not only aids in digestion but also helps you sleep well. You can add a pinch of cardamom to the milk while heating it. However, make sure you wait for at least two hours after dinner to have your milk.

Meditation

Many shrug off meditation saying they don't have the patience for it or that they have trouble concentrating. Honestly, even if you sit down in a quiet corner all by yourself and close your eyes for just 15 minutes, you will feel so much better. It helps you recenter your thoughts, clear the mental confusion, tackle pressure, increase productivity and develop a more positive outlook towards life.

Herbal tea does magic

Natural herbal teas that are free from caffeine work wonders to relax your body and mind. Herbal teas are loaded with antioxidants which not only add more years to your life but also boost your immunity.

Massage your body with oil

Not only does an oil massage make your skin supple and glowing, but it also reduces the tension that's accumulated in your muscles and helps you sleep better.

Have breakfast on time

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, skipping breakfast disturbs the Pitta dosha, and results in irritability and a buildup of negative emotions. Ayurveda recommends to eat fruits the first thing in the morning before you continue with breakfast, as it helps gets rid of toxins from the body and improves digestion.

Spice up your dinner plate

Dinner should be as wholesome and thoughtful as breakfast and lunch, although not a heavily decadent affair. However, your dinner should contain a combination of spices like turmeric, cumin, coriander, fennel, cardamom among others. Turmeric is an antiseptic, cumin improves digestion, coriander acts as a cleanser, and fennel soothes the stomach and cardamom help in cooling down your body.

Hair Care

Pay special attention to your hair. Have plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables (red and yellow fruits, green vegetables), dry fruits (walnuts, almonds). Also, remember to drink plenty of water.

Don’t avoid natural urges

Ayurveda lists 13 bodily reactions as natural urges. These urges are sneezing, belching, shallow breathing, coughing, crying, eating, drinking, and passing gas, urinating, defecating, ejaculating, vomiting and yawning. Overpowering any of these comes with its own set of health issues. However, at the same time, you have to pay attention that these urges are not overdone either.

Triphala

 Triphala is essentially a herbal concoction made from three herbs: amla, bibhitaki and haritaki. It is available in tincture, powder as well as tablet form. It cleans up the colon and keeps it healthy, improves immunity, slows down aging, improves mental health and keeps various tissues in the body in good shape.

It's easy to feel confused as to where and when you should start. Identify what you need to be taken care of the most from a physical and mental perspective, and start from there. Ayurvedic healing is a slow but effective process.
